What I love about styling real people is being able to put them in clothing they may not have chosen for themselves, but end up loving. When I was approached last year by Dayna to style her in some pieces from my shop, Vêtu de Joy, I was excited, as I was very clear on her style, but also had an idea of a new, more colorful direction that I could take her in. Check out some of the looks from our session (also shot by me)! When you're ready to book a session with me, let me know!
The Summer '17 collection from Vêtu de Joy, is bright, fresh and suited for palm trees and tropical weather and will be released on their 2nd year anniversary, May 15, 2017. The team traveled to the cactus-laden deserts of Aruba to shoot travel and style-loving social influencer, Jessica Franklin (@heygorjess) along with Raushannah Kornegay (@simplyshannah) to showcase how limitless your style and your dreams should be. Shot by internationally published street style and portrait photographer, Denisse Benitez, (@thugnanny_) the pieces took on new life in this unsuspected setting.
Taking a temporary departure from their usual love affair with structural stripes, the newest collection combines their obsession with palm prints and vivid florals with stark white and sunset orange hues. With asymmetrical hemlines, strapless tops, and high slits that reveal elegantly, keeping the wearer both comfortable and sultry, they boast pieces that are colorful for those who love them and fresh, with clean and simple looks for others.
Vêtu de Joy is a Brooklyn-based online retailer, curated by Stylist Mikaela Pabon - wife and mother whose love of prints is both bold and tasteful, which shines through her selection of pieces.
When my June collection for Vêtu de Joy launched, I created an accompanying lookbook to show off the tropical prints (and my love of palms) that were prominent in the collection. I'm thoroughly looking forward to being able to do this again for next month's release (stay tuned for that), but until then, have a gander at Mid-Summer Bloom for Vétu de Joy, shot, styled and designed by ME!
You can probably tell by our very resort-inspired, print-filled collection of clothing, that a huge part of our lives here at Vêtu de Joy, is travel.
We recently traveled to St. Thomas on a mini weekend getaway, with Renae Bluitt of In Her Shoes, a blog celebrating the entrepreneurial woman, in advance of Parlour Magazine's #Travel Fly Solo Weekend - coming in June. Renae, along with Kéla Walker and Africa Miranda, will join Parlour Magazine and a group of fly female travelers (including you?) in St. Thomas, to explore the island, your way, and on your own time.
It felt like a natural fit for us to partner with the ladies at Parlour to bring you snippets of the island, and get everyone excited about the upcoming #TravelFly trip, all while being #DressedinJoy.
From mixed prints to stripes and tropical prints, we had our (carry-on!) suitcases packed with statement-making pieces, ready for whatever St. Thomas had in store.
First we took to the streets of Charlotte Amalie in a vacation style staple - the jumpsuit.
My BFF Angela came along on our trip for some much needed R&R, and like any supportive girlfriend, she rocked pieces from my shop almost every day! It helps that she's gorgeous & sample size, too ;-)
(Angela is wearing our Which Way is Up Maxi Dress, available here)
We spent the next day soaking in the beauty of Magen's Bay, browning in the sun and talking about everything from choosing to be happy to trap music. (C'mon, you know you love Fetty Wap, don't front!)
One must-have when traveling, is the casual evening dress. Something you can wear with heels or flat sandals, and can stand out all on its own. Before traveling back to the charming neighborhoods of Charlotte Amalie, we stopped at Drake's Seat...because, selfie.

(Yellow Bell-Sleeved Shift Dress & printed sandals are by Nicole Miller)
St. Thomas is a magical little island, for sure. We experienced a bit of that magic on our last day of shooting & exploring, when a sweet homeowner invited us into her yard, then into her home to see the 15 years of hard work she's put into her labor of love, the Garden of the Silver Palm in Charlotte Amalie.

So, if you're ready to take on St. Thomas in June with (or without!) your crew, be sure to get all of your statement pieces ready! Hop over to Parlour Magazine to find out more about the #TravelFly Solo Weekend and find out how you can have the opportunity to meet new, like-minded friends for dinners, nightlife and more, in a tropical destination. You won't be disappointed, we promise!
